This support will help them to build confidence, develop communication and social skills, and pursue their interests independently from their parents. About the employer: We are seeking a warm, dedicated, and reliable Personal Assistant to support our 15-year-old, formerly looked-after boy, with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and attachment issues. Our child is cheerful and chatty but also enjoys quieter activities and spending time alone. He has a keen interest in music (mainly Queen), running, cycling, walking, some team sports at school, pool, and generally being outdoors. He also enjoys playing games on the Switch and his phone. He has no issues with communication in general but is often unable to understand social situations and what is appropriate or not appropriate to say. As such, he struggles to maintain any friendships. Main duties: Your role may involve the following tasks: Provide one-on-one supervision and support, both at home and on outings, always ensuring the child’s safety. Provide some after school support. Encourage participation in hobbies and interests, such as sports, arts, and music. Provide companionship during these activities. Support the child with understanding and managing transitions and changes to routine. Assist with the child with identifying triggers. Assist with personal care as needed, such as reminding them to wash hands. Develop and practice social skills through interaction. Accompany the child on appointments and outings (e.g. the cinema). Communicate effectively with parents regarding the child's progress, challenges, and any concerns. Type of person that you/they are looking for: Experience: Ideally, you will have some experience working with children with autism or other special needs. Despite being a dementia patient the Person is settled and calm and does not present challenging behaviour. You will be required to look after the Patient in their home to provide respite for the main carer and daughter of the Patient. Typical duties of the role will include: • Monitoring the health of the Patient and reporting any concerns, changes in behaviour, or presence of symptoms to the Main Carer. • Cooking or preparing meals and feeding or assisting the Patient with eating. • Assisting the Patient when using the toilet and bathroom. • Keeping the Patient company. • Encouraging the Patient to exercise outdoors or indoors. • Carrying out suitable activities in the home to occupy and engage the Patient • Carrying out light cleaning tasks when required. • Accompanying the Patient and family when attending medical appointments. Please note: the role involves physical care and is not suitable for individuals who are unable to support the Patient with toileting, dressing and washing, as well as pushing the Patient in a wheelchair. Weekly Hours: 15-40 hours PT/FT available Hourly rate starting from: PAYE £15.80/hr Self-employed £18.19/hr Work Schedule: Monday- Saturday 12-6pm Further Information and Requirements You must respect the privacy of the Patient and their family. We expect the carer to respect personal possessions and to use any equipment only after being trained. The carer is required to update the Main Carer with any changes in their own health that may affect the Patient’s health, wellbeing, or safety.
