We are seeking a proactive and organised Physics Senior Teaching Laboratory Technician to lead our small technical team and ensure the provision of high-quality technical support for undergraduate teaching laboratories. This is a 12-month fixed term contract with an end date of 30th September 2027. Working as part of the team you will Supervise and lead a small team of laboratory technicians, providing day to day support where required. Plan, coordinate and oversee the preparation and set-up of practical laboratory sessions, ensuring equipment is available and ready to use. Carry out first-line diagnosis, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. Maintain teaching laboratories to a high standard, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Provide technical expertise during laboratory teaching sessions. Manage laboratory equipment including inventory control, procurement and replacement planning. Work collegiately with academic staff to support the delivery of teaching activities and develop practical experiments. Support departmental open days, outreach activities and public engagement events. You will also provide technical and experimental skills that support biomedical laboratory animal research. In addition, you will support BLS teaching by contributing to the generation of animal-derived tissues, cells and other data (e.g. behavioural data/images). You will also be responsible for leading the initiation and management of a new chicken egg embryo research facility within the department. As this is a career development role, it is not anticipated that you will currently have skills in all of these areas. On the job training will be provided, and you will be supported by the department and BLS colleagues in developing the skills needed to fulfil the role in its entirety. This is a full time, indefinite role. Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in Cyber Security of Medical Devices We are seeking a motivated researcher to join an EPSRC-funded project on the cyber security of digital medical devices. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research addressing one of the major challenges in modern healthcare: ensuring that connected medical technologies are safe, secure and resilient. The post is available as either Research Associate or Senior Research Associate, depending on qualifications and experience. It is offered full-time for 18 months in the first instance, starting in October 2026. You will work on a cutting-edge interdisciplinary project that aims to identify cyber security vulnerabilities and develop innovative technological solutions for digital medical devices used within the health service. The role will involve close collaboration with experts in computer science, cyber security and medical sciences, as well as engagement with NHS clinical partners and professionals from the medical device industry. You will join Lancaster University’s growing Security and Protection Science community, which brings together expertise to address major societal and technological security challenges. Cyber security research and education at Lancaster has been strengthened through a £19 million investment in staff, equipment and infrastructure, building on the University’s reputation as one of the UK’s largest interdisciplinary cyber and data research communities.
