The Maternal and Infant Health Research Equity Centre (MIHERC) which sits in the Centre for Applied Health and Social Care Research (CARe) at Sheffield Hallam University is seeking to appoint a Senior Research Fellow in Data Science to support analysis of administrative linked data to explore intersectional inequalities in perinatal mental health service pathways. CARe is part of the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences and contributes to the University’s wider mission to deliver applied research with social impact. This role supports a wider research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) as part of the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium (MDC). The NIHR-MDC is a £50 million NIHR investment which brings together a diverse range of organisations with expertise in research, capacity development and working with people and communities to deliver a step change in maternity outcomes and developing future research leaders in this area of need. The research carried out by the consortium will focus on inequalities before, during and after pregnancy. The successful candidate will work with the multi-disciplinary team of the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium. This post will support Sheffield Hallam University’s contribution to the NIHR-MDC, specifically in the “Perinatal Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing” core team. The post will liaise closely with the “Data, Economics, Digital and Implementation (DELTA)” cross-cutting function within the NIHR-MDC which provides expertise in linked data and analysis. Particularly, the Fellow will support the analysis of local and national administrative data to explore intersectional inequalities in perinatal mental health service pathways, to enable early risk stratification and the development of equitable maternity mental health care pathways. The Fellow will also contribute to coproduction of an intervention with women, families and clinicians, and planning future evaluation of this intervention including usability and feasibility testing, data collection, implementation frameworks, and the generation of evidence to support future scale-up across the consortium. The project offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary, high-impact research at the intersection of data science, implementation science and healthcare delivery, with a focus on the translation of evidence into practical solutions that can work within real-world NHS settings and existing service workflows. The successful candidate will work with a broad network of collaborators and contribute to publications, dissemination, future funding development and wider impact activity, while helping shape interventions that are trustworthy, accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of underserved communities We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment. The University currently enrols eligible academic staff into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), a defined-benefit pension scheme. Should you be enrolled into TPS, each year you will earn a secure pension benefit of 1/57th of your salary and the University will pay pension contributions towards the cost of this pension (currently worth about 29% of your salary). For a salary of £40,000, for example, the University would pay just over £11,400 in the first year of your employment and you would earn a pension of £702 p.a. for that year (payable from your State Pension Age). If you’re a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly before joining us, you can choose to remain in USS instead The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant. You are advised to assess your eligibility against the criteria set out in the UKVI Guidance before applying. We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements. To find out more, take a look at our guide to applying. We recommend you download the job description and person specification when you apply, as this will not be available once the job has closed.
