GENERAL: The role of Dispensary Assistant requires a methodical approach whilst embracing a professional and patient focused attitude. Duties include: 1. To dispense medication to patients. Accepting, reading/checking, generating and dispensing prescriptions. 2. Stock management re-order and control stock in order to maintain adequate stock supplies at all times. Check invoices and statements against stock. Check expiry date on drugs and dispose of any that are out of date in accordance with the protocol. 3. To supply drugs in a monitored dose system when required. 4. Prescription management work as a Team in filing prescriptions by the doctors and Nurse Practitioner. 5. To be aware of and adhere to organisational policies, SOPS and procedures. 6. To maintain strict confidentiality of information relating to patients, their relatives/carers and other members of staff. 7. To undertake housekeeping tasks within the dispensary. 8. In conjunction with the Dispensary Manager develop and maintain good communication skills. 9. To be willing to undertake necessary training as a requirement for the post. 10. This is a new post as part of our service development to improve specialist palliative care in the emergency department and at the hospital front door. The focus will be on acute palliative care and our aim is to optimise symptoms early on and avoid admission where appropriate. The post holder will work alongside the four current palliative medicine consultants in the well-established palliative care service. The post holder will be based at Florence Nightingale Hospice and is expected to work across BHT sites as per their job plan. Flexibility will be required depending on service development and demand. It is proposed that the 5 consultants will ultimately rotate through, and lead on, different service areas over fixed periods of time. However, the focus for this post will be on acute care at the frontdoor. There are a number of initiatives in early stages, and the post holder will be encouraged to develop these further alongside the senior clinical and management teams. The department is keen to accommodate special interests, and the team is happy to discuss and consider appropriate changes in the weekly job plan. Research and audit ideas are encouraged. There is a departmental audit programme, and the post-holder will be expected to be actively involved in quality improvement projects. The on-call service is shared with our colleagues in East Berkshire, on a 1:8 rota currently, which is paid as a supplement of 5% and will be shown on the job plan. The post holder will be expected to deliver and contribute to education and training across Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust and primary care. The successful applicant will be supported in becoming a clinical and educational supervisor with adequate provision in their job plan. The post-holder will be required to comply with Trust and GMC standards for appraisal and revalidation, including continuing professional development. Saint Francis Hospice is seeking to recruit a doctor with a special interest in palliative medicine for a full time, fixed term (4 months) Specialty Doctor/Clinical Fellow post (grade and pay dependent on experience). The post runs from 07.10.2026. The post fills a fallow post due to a Registrar gap. The contract will be an NHS contract, held by BHRUT (the local hospital trust) but will be fully seconded to the hospice. This post is ideal for a doctor with an interest in palliative care, seeking to gain hospice experience towards application to a Specialist Palliative Care training rotation or seeking to consolidate/expand their palliative care knowledge and skills. Applicants must have completed their foundation years’ training, with, ideally (but not exclusively) an additional 2 years + experience in relevant clinical practice (the additional 2 years + enabling eligibility for Specialty Doctor status). Our hospice is 4 miles from Romford station, in beautiful countryside on the London-Essex border. We have 18 specialist palliative care beds and a busy community service, which includes a 24/7 helpline, Community CNS, medical and wide MDT visiting services. We see and support people with complex problems related to both advanced malignant and non-malignant conditions, frequently with multi morbidity. We serve the population of Outer East London (Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering), near West Essex and Brentwood. Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is our local hospital Trust. We are a regional education centre, experienced in supporting doctors and others in training. The post holder will join a medical team of 2.4WTE Consultants, 1.6WTE Specialty Doctors and 2.4WTE GP trainees. The post holder will provide middle grade support to the hospice ward, with opportunity for community visiting dependant on experience. Development and career progression will be supported in line with the applicant’s level of training/personal development goals. There is an on-call requirement, which involves weekend daytime ward rounds and admissions, with non-resident low intensity night cover. Postholders must be able to attend the hospice within 1 hour during non-resident on call periods.
