EYFS / KS1 Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Autism Support
Location: Irlam
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Contract: Full-time - Until the end of the academic year
Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience
We are looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a child with autism within an EYFS/KS1 mainstream classroom.
The child requires a high level of consistent support to help them access the mainstream school environment and engage with their learning. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the child manage the school day, develop their independence and access learning alongside their peers.
You will need to be patient, calm and confident in adapting your approach to the individual needs of the child. Experience supporting children with autism is highly desirable.
The Role
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with autism
- Supporting the child to access learning within the mainstream classroom
- Helping the child develop confidence and independence
- Supporting with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the school day
- Adapting activities and learning to suit the child's individual needs
- Supporting positive behaviour and engagement
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team
- Helping the child develop positive relationships with their peers
- Following individual support strategies and contributing to the child's progress
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children with autism or additional needs
- Experience within EYFS or KS1
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Good understanding of behaviour and emotional regulation
- The ability to build a strong, trusting relationship with a child
- Confidence working on a 1:1 basis
- A flexible approach and the ability to adapt to changing needs
- A genuine passion for supporting children to access education and become more independent
