Contract: Long-term - minimum until 19th February 2027, with the potential to extend

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 child with autism within a mainstream primary school.
The child is able to access the mainstream curriculum but benefits from consistent 1:1 support, clear routines and a structured approach throughout the school day. They respond particularly well when they know what to expect, and can become dysregulated when routines or expectations are unexpectedly changed.
The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the child feel settled, confident and able to engage with their learning. Building a positive relationship and understanding the child's individual needs will be key to the success of the placement.
The Role
- Providing consistent 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with autism
- Supporting the child to access the mainstream curriculum
- Maintaining clear and predictable routines throughout the school day
- Preparing the child for changes to routines and transitions
- Supporting emotional regulation when the child becomes dysregulated
- Helping the child develop independence and confidence
- Supporting positive behaviour and engagement in lessons
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
- Building a strong, trusting relationship with the child
- Providing reassurance and consistency throughout the school day
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience supporting children with autism
- Experience working within a primary school, particularly KS1
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- An understanding of how routine and structure can support children with autism
- Confidence supporting children with emotional regulation
- The ability to recognise triggers and respond proactively
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A flexible approach while maintaining appropriate boundaries and routines
- A genuine passion for helping children become more confident and independent
What's on Offer?
- Full-time Monday-Friday position
- 8:30am-3:30pm
- Long-term role until at least 19th February 2027
- Potential to extend beyond this date for the right candidate
- 1:1 experience within a mainstream Year 2 classroom
If you're an experienced Teaching Assistant with autism experience and are looking for a long-term 1:1 opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
