We are currently recruiting for pro-active and engaging SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist primary setting in Irlam.
The school supports children across EYFS and Key Stage 1, with pupils who have a range of complex learning and additional needs. Many pupils have EHCPs and require a highly personalised approach to their education and development.
Many of the children require support with communication, interaction, sensory regulation, learning, mobility and developing independence.
The Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other support staff to provide consistent, personalised support throughout the school day.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
- Helping children access personalised learning activities
- Supporting communication and interaction
- Using appropriate communication strategies and visual support
- Helping pupils manage sensory needs and regulate their emotions
- Supporting transitions and daily routines
- Encouraging independence and life skills
- Supporting physical and practical activities
- Working towards individual EHCP outcomes
- Supporting personal care where required
- Creating a positive and engaging classroom environment
The school is looking for pro-active members of staff who will get involved, engage children in activities and use their initiative rather than waiting to be directed.
You should be confident getting involved in play, sensory activities, outdoor learning, physical activities and practical tasks, while adapting your approach to each child's individual needs.

- Confident working with children with complex SEN
- Able to build strong relationships with pupils
- Comfortable supporting communication and sensory needs
- Able to use initiative and think creatively
- Reliable and consistent
- Passionate about helping children develop their confidence and independence
Experience working with PMLD, SLD, MLD, ASD, communication difficulties or complex needs would be highly desirable.
Experience in SEN schools, mainstream schools, care, residential settings, youth work or healthcare will also be considered.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- SEN experience is desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Right to work in the UK
- Commitment to safeguarding children
