Contract: Temporary – 3 months
Working Pattern: Mon–Fri, 37 hours pw
Hybrid Working: Onsite minimum 2 days per week
The Role
Our client, a large public sector organisation undergoing significant transformation, is seeking an experienced Interim Senior Project Manager to lead high value, high complexity change projects within a politically sensitive and fast moving environment.
This role sits within a major transformation portfolio and requires a confident leader capable of driving delivery, challenging assumptions, and ensuring robust project governance. You will oversee complex project teams, manage risks and dependencies, and secure measurable service improvements and recurrent savings.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, direction and delivery of complex transformation projects, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and agreed standards.
Develop, own and actively manage detailed project plans, documentation, risks, issues and dependencies across multi-disciplinary teams.
Provide leadership, coaching and line management to Project Managers and Project Assistants, ensuring high performance and professional standards.
Produce and present business cases, options appraisals and progress reports to senior stakeholders and governance boards.
Manage project budgets, ensuring delivery within agreed tolerances and escalating deviations appropriately.
Collaborate with senior leaders to identify, track and realise significant service improvements, efficiencies and recurrent savings.
Lead on stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution and cross department collaboration across a complex political landscape.
Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned activity and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
You Will Need (Essential Requirements)
Significant experience delivering complex transformation or business change projects from initiation to closure.
Strong knowledge of project and programme management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, MSP) and their practical application.
Demonstrable experience leading and motivating multi?disciplinary project teams in high complexity environments.
Advanced analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex information.
Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders, manage governance processes and operate effectively in politically sensitive settings.
Desirable Experience
Experience delivering transformation within a local authority or wider public sector context.
Experience in benefits management and financial modelling.
Experience managing enterprise system projects or multiple concurrent projects.
Knowledge of specialist ICT systems used in project and programme management.
