Summary
Specialist SEN Teacher - Knowsley
Location: Knowsley, Merseyside
Pay: £120-£220 per day
Hours: Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
We're looking for a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist education setting in Knowsley, supporting pupils who need a more individual approach to learning.
Starting ASAP, this is a full-time opportunity for a teacher who enjoys finding creative ways to engage pupils, overcome barriers to learning and help children achieve progress at their own pace.
You'll work with pupils with a range of additional needs, adapting your teaching to ensure lessons are accessible, purposeful and engaging.
You'll create structured learning experiences that recognise each pupil's strengths, needs and starting point.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning lessons around individual learning needs and abilities
- Delivering differentiated and accessible curriculum activities
- Supporting pupils who may find traditional classroom learning challenging
- Setting achievable targets and monitoring individual progress
- Using creative teaching methods to encourage engagement
- Establishing clear routines and a positive classroom environment
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants and support professionals
- Contributing to individual learning and support plans
- Encouraging communication, independence and social development
- Celebrating progress in all its forms
The strongest SEND teaching starts with understanding the individual pupil.
Children may communicate, process information or respond to the classroom environment differently. You'll take the time to understand what helps each learner feel secure, motivated and ready to participate.
That might mean adjusting the pace of a lesson, introducing visual resources, breaking activities into smaller steps or simply recognising when a pupil needs a different approach.
You'll combine clear expectations with patience and consistency, creating an environment where pupils feel supported without limiting what they can achieve.
We're looking for a qualified teacher who can bring energy, empathy and adaptability to the classroom.
Ideally, you'll have:
- QTS, PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Previous classroom teaching experience
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
- Strong differentiation and adaptive teaching skills
- Confident behaviour and classroom management
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to work effectively with Teaching Assistants and other professionals
- A positive and inclusive approach to education
Experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties or communication needs would be beneficial.
Whether you're already an experienced SEN Teacher or you're a qualified teacher looking to develop greater specialist experience, this role provides an opportunity to strengthen your SEND practice.
You'll develop valuable experience in personalised learning, inclusive teaching and supporting pupils whose educational journey may look very different from that of their peers.
Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to help children experience success, build confidence and recognise their own potential.
Pay: £120-£220 per day, depending on experience.
