R is an 18 year old man, and is a friendly, gentle, and easy-going young adult who enjoys gaming on his Nintendo, visiting new towns and cities, browsing DVD shops, spending time at arcades, playing table tennis, and bowling. He values routine, consistency, and knowing what to expect, which helps him feel happy, settled, and confident.R benefits from clear communication, patience, and encouragement. He prefers short, straightforward information and appreciates having time to process and respond. Unexpected changes, busy environments, loud behaviour, shouting, unfamiliar situations, and changes to plans can cause anxiety, so advance notice, reassurance, and clear guidance are important.Although R can do many things independently, he sometimes benefits from prompts, encouragement, and support to build confidence and develop skills further.The role will primarily involve supporting R to develop his independence and confidence within the community.Duties
- Support to access social activities and community opportunities.
- Support with public transport and travelling, particularly when visiting new or unfamiliar places.
- Support to safely navigate community environments and develop road safety awareness.
- Encouragement and prompts with household tasks and helping out at home.
- Support with shopping, meal planning, and meal preparation.
- Encouraging social confidence and independence while respecting R's choices and pace.

- Committed to helping R stay as independent as possible.
- Respectful of R's privacy, dignity, choices and individuality.

- Comfortable around dogs, as the family has a French Bulldog.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Happy to work with family members while keeping R's wishes at the centre.
- Previous experience supporting autistic young people or adults.
- Knowledge and understanding of autism and how it affects individuals differently.
- Knowledge and understanding of anxiety and strategies to support someone when anxious.
- Shared interests with R, such as gaming, visiting new places, table tennis, bowling, arcades or similar social activities.
A higher hourly rate is available for self-employed carers, reflecting that they are responsible for their own holiday provision, National Insurance, pension arrangements, and other employment-related costs. Self-employed carers must also demonstrate that they are fully ensured, and registered with HMRC.

Summary Terms and Conditions
Expenses
You will be reimbursed for any reasonable and pre-approved expenses incurred in the course of carrying out your duties. Where a personal vehicle is used to transport a service user and mileage reimbursement is to be claimed, this arrangement must be authorised in advance, documented within the service user's care plan, and processed in accordance with the organisation's payroll procedures.
Holiday Entitlement
Employees and workers in the UK are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks' paid annual leave per year on an FTE basis. Part time roles will be calculated pro rata. Self-employed individuals are not entitled to statutory paid holiday leave, and any time off is unpaid unless they make their own financial arrangements.
Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the employer. Where children under the age of 18 live in the household, the successful applicant will need an Enhanced DBS check that includes both the Adults' and Children's Barred Lists. In these circumstances, employment cannot commence within the family home until the DBS clearance has been received.

Probationary Period
This post is subject to a three month probationary period which gives both you and your employer the opportunity to ensure the role is a good fit, identify any training or support needs, and settle into the working relationship.
Mandatory Training
Where the duties of this role include food preparation, moving and handling, the use of hazardous substances (including household cleaning products), or the handling of medication, you will be required to complete any relevant mandatory training and competency assessments.
