I am a 22-year-old man who has mental health challenges that restrict my daily functioning, particularly my OCD. I would describe myself as an expressive, but anxious, individual. I am strictly vegan and am passionate about maintaining a vegan lifestyle, so it is important that anyone supporting me respects and understands this.I am empathetic, thoughtful, and keen to continue developing my independence and confidence with the right support.I enjoy arts and crafts and have a wide range of interests including films, maths, science, trampolining, gymnastics, pottery, circus activities, finding new places to eat, being in nature and outdoor adventures. I enjoy exploring new experiences and environments but can sometimes need support and reassurance when doing so.I live with two dogs, so I would like my Personal Assistant to be comfortable around animals.I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support me with:
- Meal planning, shopping, and meal preparation, including understanding and supporting my vegan lifestyle.
- Developing cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen.
- Exploring new environments and accessing the community.
- Building and maintaining independence.
- Support with social activities, building and maintaining relationships.
- Assistance with shopping, planning activities, and accessing opportunities in the community.

- Full and clean UK driving license and access to own vehicle. See mileage notes below.
- Either have the ability to or confidence in themselves that they will be able to lipread me so that they can communicate effectively with me and translate for me where or when necessary.
- Previous experience supporting young people
- Experience or knowledge of OCD would be beneficial.
- Experience of lip reading and/or British Sign Language (BSL) would be particularly advantageous, although I am open to someone willing to learn and develop these skills.
£12.89 employed rate
A higher hourly rate is available for self-employed carers, reflecting that they are responsible for their own holiday provision, National Insurance, pension arrangements, and other employment-related costs. Self-employed carers must also demonstrate that they are fully ensured, and registered with HMRC.
Employees receive these benefits through their employment package, which is reflected in the employed rate.
Hours of Work
10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule however shifts will be late afternoon, early evening, and weekends.

ExpensesYou will be reimbursed for any reasonable and pre-approved expenses incurred in the course of carrying out your duties. Where a personal vehicle is used to transport a service user and mileage reimbursement is to be claimed, this arrangement must be authorised in advance, documented within the service user's care plan, and processed in accordance with the organisation's payroll procedures.Holiday EntitlementEmployees and workers in the UK are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks' paid annual leave per year on an FTE basis. Part time roles will be calculated pro rata. Self-employed individuals are not entitled to statutory paid holiday leave, and any time off is unpaid unless they make their own financial arrangements.Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the employer. Where children under the age of 18 live in the household, the successful applicant will need an Enhanced DBS check that includes both the Adults' and Children's Barred Lists. In these circumstances, employment cannot commence within the family home until the DBS clearance has been received.
