Job description

I am a middle-aged man with physical support needs looking for a friendly and experienced Personal Assistant to assist me with general daily living tasks.Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support with domestic tasks to help maintain a clean, safe, and tidy home environment.
  • Accompany and assist with attending appointments and accessing local community facilities.
  • Provide wheelchair assistance, including safe handling and support when out and about.
  • Assist with running errands, such as shopping and collecting items.
  • Support with general administrative tasks, including correspondence, paperwork, and organising information.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested, in line with the role and the employer's needs.
Person specificationEssential
  • Reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to follow instructions and work using own initiative.
  • Respectful of confidentiality, privacy and dignity.
  • Physically able to support wheelchair use and assist with day-to-day activities.
  • Willing to support both at home and in the community.
  • Patient, friendly and caring approach.

Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience as a Personal Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker, or in a similar role.
  • Experience supporting a wheelchair user.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of local community facilities and activities.
  • Basic IT and administrative skills.
  • First Aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Understanding of person-centred support and promoting independence.

Hours of Work

12-16 hours per week - Schedule to be discussed at interview.

Rate of Pay

12.89 per hour - employed

15.55 per hour - self employed

A higher hourly rate is available for self-employed carers, reflecting that they are responsible for their own holiday provision, National Insurance, pension arrangements, and other employment-related costs. Self-employed carers must also demonstrate that they are fully ensured, and registered with HMRC.Employees receive these benefits through their employment package, which is reflected in the employed rate.

Summary Terms and Conditions

ExpensesYou will be reimbursed for any reasonable and pre-approved expenses incurred in the course of carrying out your duties. Where a personal vehicle is used to transport a service user and mileage reimbursement is to be claimed, this arrangement must be authorised in advance, documented within the service user's care plan, and processed in accordance with the organisation's payroll procedures.Holiday EntitlementEmployees and workers in the UK are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks' paid annual leave per year on an FTE basis. Part time roles will be calculated pro rata. Self-employed individuals are not entitled to statutory paid holiday leave, and any time off is unpaid unless they make their own financial arrangements.Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the employer. Where children under the age of 18 live in the household, the successful applicant will need an Enhanced DBS check that includes both the Adults' and Children's Barred Lists. In these circumstances, employment cannot commence within the family home until the DBS clearance has been received. ReferencesThis post is subject to satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.Probationary PeriodThis post is subject to a three month probation period. The three-month probationary period gives both you and your employer the opportunity to ensure the role is a good fit, identify any training or support needs, and settle into the working relationship.Mandatory TrainingWhere the duties of this role include food preparation, moving and handling, the use of hazardous substances (including household cleaning products), or the handling of medication, you will be required to complete any relevant mandatory training and competency assessments.
