SEN Teaching Assistant - Make a Real Difference in Further Education

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking to take the next step in your career within a college environment?

We are currently recruiting for SEN Teaching Assistants to join a mainstream college in Merseyside, supporting students aged 16+ with complex learning difficulties, disabilities and additional needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience working in SEN schools, specialist provisions, colleges or support settings who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their independence.

The students you will support have a range of needs identified within their EHCPs, and some students may require a higher level of support, including personal care and mobility assistance.

The position is offered on a full-time temporary-to-permanent basis, with the opportunity for the successful candidate to secure a permanent role within the college.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with a range of SEN and complex needs.

- Support students to access their curriculum and participate fully in college life.

- Work closely with teaching staff to deliver individualised learning and support strategies.

- Support students in line with their EHCPs and individual support plans.

- Help students develop their confidence, independence and life skills.

- Adapt your approach to meet individual learning, communication and behavioural needs.

- Support students with Autism, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, communication needs and SEMH.

- Assist with classroom-based, practical and vocational activities.

- Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to promote engagement with learning.

- Support students with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.

- Where required, provide personal care and mobility support, always maintaining the student's dignity and independence.

- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams and other professionals.

- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to relevant staff.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for passionate and committed SEN professionals who have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.

You may currently be working as a:

- SEN Teaching Assistant

- Higher Level Teaching Assistant

- Learning Support Assistant

- Specialist Teaching Assistant

- 1:1 SEN Support Assistant

- Support Worker within a specialist education setting

- SEN or Complex Needs Practitioner

Experience supporting students with EHCPs and complex needs would be highly desirable.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with Autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, challenging behaviour or SEMH.

You will need to be patient, resilient and compassionate, with the ability to build strong professional relationships with young people and encourage them to achieve their full potential.

Why Apply?

- Full-time, Monday-Friday college-based position.

- Temporary-to-permanent opportunity.

- Work with students aged 16+ with a range of SEN and complex needs.

- Build valuable Further Education experience.

- Opportunity to develop your SEN knowledge and experience.

- Work alongside experienced teaching and specialist support teams.

- Potential to secure a permanent position within the college.

- Make a genuine difference to the education, confidence and independence of young people.

If you're an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a new challenge within Further Education, we'd love to hear from you.
