Summary

We are looking for a kind, patient and fun-loving Personal Assistant (PA) to support a happy and sociable teenage boy, to enjoy activities, build confidence and get out and about in the local community.

He has Down syndrome, autism and hypermobility. He communicates verbally, although his speech is limited, and also uses Makaton to support his communication. He has a wonderful personality and is easily pleased. He loves music and singing, going to the theatre, visiting charity shops, swimming, going to the park, shopping, dogs and babies!

He can occasionally become upset or frustrated when he is unable to communicate what he wants, so patience, understanding and a good sense of humour are really important.

Roles and Responsibilities

The main purpose of the role is to provide companionship and social support, helping him to get out, have fun and take part in activities he enjoys.

You may support with activities such as:

Going into town and shopping

Visiting charity shops

Going to the park

Swimming

Going to the theatre or other entertainment

Exploring new activities and places

Enjoying music and singing

Simply spending time together and providing companionship

There may be limited personal care support if required, but the focus of the role is on social activities, companionship and helping him enjoy his free time.
