About the Role
A supportive and inclusive school in Rochdale is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who may present with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, trauma-related difficulties, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), or other barriers to learning. You will play a vital role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and develop the confidence and skills needed to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and wellbeing
- Supporting emotional regulation and the development of positive coping strategies
- Implementing behaviour support plans and individual intervention strategies
- Assisting pupils to access learning and remain engaged throughout the school day
- Managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management techniques
- Supporting pupils during transitions, social interactions, and unstructured times
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external agencies
- Promoting a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or additional needs
- Be calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations
- Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Be able to build positive and professional relationships with pupils and staff
- Demonstrate a nurturing and proactive approach to supporting learning and wellbeing
- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
Desirable:
- Experience within a SEMH school, alternative provision, PRU, or specialist setting
- Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE, or similar positive behaviour support training
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification
- Experience supporting pupils with ADHD, ASC, attachment difficulties, or adverse childhood experiences
