About the Role
A welcoming and inclusive specialist SEND school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. The school caters for pupils aged 5-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils both in the classroom and through targeted interventions, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other support staff to create a positive and nurturing learning environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support, adapting learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
- Support pupils with ASC, SEMH, ADHD, and communication difficulties throughout the school day.
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development using consistent strategies.
- Assist with the implementation of EHCPs, behaviour support plans, and therapeutic interventions.
- Support pupils with personal development, independence, and confidence.
- Use communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or other AAC methods where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND, either in education, care, or a similar setting.
- Have experience working with pupils with ASC, SEMH, ADHD, or other additional needs.
- Be patient, caring, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Be confident supporting behaviour management and emotional regulation.
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full-time.
Desirable:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
- PECS, Makaton, BSL, or AAC training.
- Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE, or similar positive behaviour management training.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex learning needs or challenging behaviour.
