KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Use British Sign Language (BSL) as the primary method of communication to support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in class. - Work under the direction of the class teacher to deliver differentiated learning support, both in group settings and on a one-to-one basis. - Assist in adapting lesson resources and materials to make them fully accessible for pupils who are Deaf or have hearing impairments. - Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, engagement and emotional wellbeing. - Liaise with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals (eg. Teachers of the Deaf, audiologists) to ensure a consistent approach to support. - Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to reviews and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where required. - Promote inclusion and ensure pupils are fully integrated into the life of the school. - Support with pastoral care and social communication skills development. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS - Level 2 in British Sign Language (BSL Level 2) - essential - Previous experience supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired pupils in a school or educational setting. - Strong understanding of the specific learning and communication needs of Deaf children. - Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply). - Right to work in the UK. - Two professional references covering the last two years. DESIRABLE - Level 3 BSL qualification or above. - CACHE Level 3 or equivalent TA qualification. - Experience working with pupils with additional SEN needs (ASD, SLCN, SEMH). - Familiarity with EHCPs and Annual Review processes. - Knowledge of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.
