Job Description

Job Title: Part-time – Youth Development and Support worker

Location: Newham

Responsible to: Youth and Community Coordinator

Salary: £6,950 (9 hours per week)

Job Summary:

This is a hands-on opportunity to make a positive difference to young people across Newham. Working closely with the Youth and Community Coordinator, the post holder will help shape and deliver safe, inclusive and engaging youth provision that builds confidence, develops practical and personal skills, and connects young people with new opportunities. The role combines direct delivery with session planning, support for sessional workers and volunteers, partnership working, safeguarding, record-keeping and outcome monitoring. It would suit someone who enjoys building trusted professional relationships, bringing energy and ideas to activities, and helping young people recognise and achieve their potential, in line with REIN’s policies and procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Build positive, trusted and professional relationships with young people, providing encouragement, guidance and consistent support that helps them feel valued, heard and able to participate.

2. Plan and deliver engaging activities that develop young people’s confidence, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, leadership and other practical life skills.

3. Create opportunities for young people to broaden their life experiences through creative, cultural, educational, recreational and community-based activities, visits and projects.

4. Support young people to identify their strengths, interests and aspirations; set achievable personal goals; recognise their progress; and work towards recorded or accredited outcomes where appropriate.

5. Encourage personal development by helping young people strengthen resilience, independence, self-awareness, decision-making and responsibility for their choices and wellbeing.

6. Involve young people in shaping activities and projects, enabling them to express their views, make informed choices, take on responsibility and contribute positively to their community.

7. Help young people access relevant information, services, learning, volunteering and progression opportunities, working with families and partner organisations when appropriate.

8. Keep accurate and timely records and provide concise updates, monitoring information and reports as required by management and funders.

9. Work with colleagues, sessional workers, volunteers, parents, schools, community organisations and statutory services to provide joined-up support and widen opportunities for young people.

10. Support sessional workers and volunteers to deliver safe, welcoming and high-quality youth provision, sharing good practice and contributing ideas for continuous improvement.

11. Plan and review sessions, complete appropriate risk assessments, maintain accurate attendance and progress records, and use feedback and evaluation to improve young people’s experiences and outcomes.

12. Promote young people’s welfare and follow REIN’s safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data-protection procedures; participate in training, supervision and reflective practice; and undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the post.

Key Outcomes

•

Young people build confidence, resilience, independence and a stronger sense of their own abilities and aspirations.

•

Participants develop practical, social and personal skills that support their wellbeing, relationships, education, employability and future choices.

•

Young people gain access to positive new experiences, wider opportunities and meaningful ways to contribute to their community.

•

Progress is recognised and evidenced through goals, feedback, participation records and recorded or accredited outcomes where appropriate.

About You

You will be approachable, dependable and motivated by the opportunity to help young people thrive. You will be able to communicate clearly with young people, families,

colleagues and partners; contribute positively to a team; and use initiative while working within agreed plans and professional boundaries. You will be organised enough to support session planning and accurate record-keeping, and confident, responding calmly and appropriately to changing needs. An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and inclusive practice is essential. Experience gained through youth work, community activity, education, mentoring, coaching or volunteering would be valuable, but REIN also welcomes applicants who bring transferable skills, sound judgement, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to its values.

What This Role Offers

This role offers the chance to see the direct impact of your work while contributing ideas to meaningful community programmes. You will gain practical experience across youth engagement, activity planning, partnership working, safeguarding and project delivery, supported by relevant learning, supervision and reflective practice. You will join a values-led organisation with a strong commitment to rights, equality and opportunity in Newham, where your contribution can help young people feel heard, supported and able to progress.
