Learning Support Assistant – SEMH Alternative Provision, Shrewsbury

£90 per day | Tuesdays, 9:00am–3:00pm | Term time only | Start ASAP

Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a calm, caring Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a small SEN alternative provision near Shrewsbury. This SEMH Learning Support Assistant role is one day a week to start, with real scope for more.

About the provision

The provision supports secondary-age young people referred by their schools for behaviour respite, emotionally based school avoidance or mental health support. It is in its third year, with 22 students on roll and up to 8–10 on site each day.

Learning is built around physical activity, emotional wellbeing and social skills. Each day, students rotate through fitness training, boxing and sport, emotional intelligence sessions, and team-building activities. The site also has a forest school area, a fire pit and an art and mentoring space. The approach is nurturing and restorative, not sanctions-led.

The role

As our Learning Support Assistant, you will:

- Support students one-to-one and in small groups throughout the day

- Build trusting relationships with young people who have struggled in mainstream school

- Help students manage their emotions and stay engaged

- Respond to challenging behaviour calmly, using de-escalation and restorative approaches

- Work closely with the Education Lead and follow safeguarding procedures

What's on offer

- £90 per day

- A small, supportive setting with low student numbers

- Potential for extra days, holiday club work and some remote admin hours

- A dedicated consultant at Luma

All candidates will attend a site visit before any placement. Luma Education Recruitment is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
