Summary
If you're an experienced SEND practitioner looking for flexible, well-paid work where you can focus on supporting one young person, this could be a great next role.
SEND Inclusion Support is recruiting a Post-16 SEND Mentor in South Molton to work alongside an established Nurture Teacher, supporting a young person with complex additional needs.
You'll be part of a structured programme with the Nurture Teacher leading the educational planning and curriculum, leaving you to focus on what you do best - building the relationship, supporting engagement and helping the young person develop greater confidence and independence.
- £20-£22 per hour
- Flexible, part-time working
- Consistent 1:1 experience with one young person
- The support and direction of an established Nurture Teacher
- No responsibility for independently planning and delivering the curriculum
- Experience supporting a young person through the important transition towards adulthood
- Exposure to practical and community-based learning
- The opportunity to strengthen your experience of complex SEND, autism and emotional regulation
- Support from a wider specialist SEND team
For someone looking to build their career within SEND, post-16 support, alternative provision or transition-to-adulthood services, this is an opportunity to develop valuable specialist experience.
The young person has a range of needs including:
- Autism
- Anxiety and mood dysregulation
- Delayed communication
- Delayed literacy and numeracy skills
- Attention and concentration difficulties
- Social interaction needs
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Gross and fine motor needs
- Sensory needs
You'll work alongside the Nurture Teacher to provide the consistency and individual support needed to help them engage with both learning and wider development.
Your support will focus on:
- Building engagement with planned learning
- Communication and social interaction
- Emotional and sensory regulation
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Attention and concentration
- Literacy and numeracy activities
- Independence and everyday life skills
- Practical and community-based learning
- Preparing for future education, training or employment
A big part of the role is knowing when to support, when to encourage and when to step back, helping the young person develop independence rather than becoming reliant on adult support.
You'll need strong experience supporting young people with SEND and the confidence to work with complex needs.
We're particularly interested in people with:
- Experience supporting autism and complex SEND
- An understanding of anxiety and emotional regulation
- Strong relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Confidence supporting communication and social interaction
- The ability to promote independence
- Experience supporting older teenagers or young adults towards adulthood
A degree-level qualification, HLTA experience or equivalent SEND experience would be advantageous.
If you're looking for flexible specialist work where your SEND experience will be valued, you'll have professional support around you and you can focus on helping one young person prepare for their next stage, we'd love to hear from you.
