Summary
Lead SEND Support Assistant - Hayes
Location: Hayes, West London
Pay: £100-£110 per day PAYE
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
You've learned how to support a child who is struggling to engage. You know how to adapt an activity, manage challenging moments calmly and build the trust that allows a pupil to make progress.
Now it's time to build on that experience.
We're looking for an experienced Lead SEND Support Assistant in Hayes who wants to develop beyond the traditional Teaching Assistant role and gain experience that can support their next career move.
You'll remain closely involved with pupils while taking greater ownership of interventions, individual targets and SEND support.
You'll support children with a range of additional needs, potentially including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, learning difficulties and sensory differences.
Some pupils may require structured academic support. Others may need help developing communication, managing emotions or becoming more independent within the school environment.
Your role could include:
- Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions
- Supporting pupils working towards EHCP outcomes
- Adapting classroom activities and resources
- Monitoring progress against individual targets
- Recording observations and intervention outcomes
- Supporting communication and social development
- Helping pupils manage emotions and behaviour
- Developing children's confidence and independence
- Working closely with teachers and the SENCO
- Sharing strategies with other support staff
- Contributing observations during pupil reviews
- Supporting consistent SEND practice across the classroom
- Working alongside external professionals where required
If you've spent time as a Teaching Assistant, you already understand the practical side of supporting children.
This role gives you the opportunity to develop your understanding of what happens around that support.
You'll gain greater exposure to EHCP targets, intervention planning, progress monitoring, differentiated learning and collaborative SEND practice.
You'll begin to understand not only what support a pupil receives, but why it's being used, what outcome it's designed to achieve and how progress is measured.
That's valuable experience if you're thinking about moving into a more specialist or senior education role.
Career progression doesn't always require an immediate jump into management.
Sometimes the next step is simply taking responsibility for more.
You might lead an intervention independently, notice that a particular strategy isn't producing the expected outcome or share an approach that's been particularly successful with a pupil.
You'll be encouraged to contribute your observations and ideas rather than simply wait for instructions.
Over time, that helps you build the professional confidence needed for more senior roles.
This position could provide useful experience if your longer-term ambition includes becoming a:
Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant
SEND Intervention Lead
Learning Mentor
Pastoral Support Practitioner
Behaviour Support Practitioner
Teacher
You don't need to know exactly where you want your career to go yet.
The aim is to make sure your next role gives you new skills and stronger experience to take with you.
This opportunity could suit someone currently working as a:
SEND Teaching Assistant • SEN TA • Learning Support Assistant • 1:1 Teaching Assistant • Specialist TA • Learning Mentor
Previous formal leadership experience isn't essential.
You should, however, have good practical experience supporting children with additional needs and feel ready to take on greater responsibility.
You'll need:
- Experience supporting children with SEND
- Confidence delivering 1:1 and small-group support
- A patient and consistent approach
- Good understanding of inclusive education
- Strong communication skills
- Confidence working with teachers and other professionals
- Good organisation and observational skills
- The ability to work independently when required
- A willingness to learn and develop professionally
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
You've already invested time in developing your SEND skills.
Your next position should add something new.
This full-time, long-term role in Hayes gives you the opportunity to deepen your specialist knowledge, become more involved in pupil progress and gradually take on greater responsibility.
You'll receive:
- £100-£110 per day PAYE
- Weekly PAYE pay
- No umbrella company deductions
- Full-time, long-term work
- Experience within a supportive SEND environment
- Opportunities to develop intervention and progress-monitoring skills
- Professional development opportunities
- Dedicated consultant support
If you're ready to move beyond simply gaining more Teaching Assistant experience and start building broader experience, this could be the right next step.
