Primary Supply Teacher - Harrow

Location: Harrow, North West London

Pay: From £160 per day PAYE

Contract: Flexible Supply | Full-Time Opportunities

Start Date: ASAP

A teaching career doesn't always have to follow a straight line.

Sometimes the best way to decide what you want next is to experience different schools, work with different year groups and see first-hand which environments bring out the best in you as a teacher.

We are recruiting Primary Supply Teachers across Harrow for opportunities starting ASAP.

This is ideal for qualified teachers who want to remain actively involved in the classroom while gaining broader experience and maintaining greater flexibility over their working lives.

You might be an Early Career Teacher looking to build confidence and expand your classroom experience. You may have several years of teaching behind you but want a change from a permanent position. Perhaps you're returning to education following a break, relocating to the area, or simply want to experience different schools before deciding on your next long-term move.

Whatever your reason, supply teaching can provide valuable professional experience while allowing you to keep developing your career.

As a Primary Supply Teacher, you'll provide teaching cover when schools require additional classroom support.

You'll step into an established class and ensure pupils continue to receive structured, purposeful learning throughout the school day.

Some assignments may be short-term, requiring you to quickly understand the class routines and confidently take responsibility for the day.

Other placements may last longer, giving you the opportunity to become part of the school community, build stronger relationships with pupils and take on additional teaching responsibilities.

Depending on the placement, you could be working across EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, providing excellent exposure to different stages of primary education.

You'll be expected to bring confidence, professionalism and enthusiasm into every classroom you work in.

Your responsibilities may include:

- Delivering engaging lessons across the primary curriculum

- Following existing lesson plans and schemes of work

- Creating a positive atmosphere where pupils feel ready to learn

- Managing behaviour in line with individual school policies

- Maintaining established classroom routines and expectations

- Adapting activities for different abilities and learning needs

- Supporting pupils who require additional help to access learning

- Working effectively with Teaching Assistants and support staff

- Encouraging pupils to participate and contribute during lessons

- Monitoring learning and providing feedback where appropriate

- Supporting pupils with SEND and additional needs

- Ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing remain central to classroom practice

- Communicating professionally with teaching staff and school leaders

- Leaving clear feedback for the returning class teacher

- Providing consistency for pupils during periods of staff absence

For longer-term assignments, responsibilities may also include planning lessons, assessment, marking and contributing to wider curriculum activities.

One of the benefits of supply teaching is the opportunity to work across different stages of primary education.

In EYFS and Key Stage 1, you may support children as they develop the fundamental skills that underpin their future learning. This could include early literacy, phonics, communication, numeracy and personal development.

Within Key Stage 2, you'll work with pupils as they become increasingly independent learners, helping them deepen their understanding, develop confidence and prepare for the transition to secondary education.

Experiencing different year groups can help you identify where your strengths lie and where you would like your teaching career to develop.

Working in different schools challenges you to become adaptable.

You'll encounter different behaviour policies, curriculum approaches, teaching styles, pupil demographics and classroom structures.

That variety can help you develop a broader teaching toolkit.

Over time, you'll have opportunities to strengthen skills in:

- Behaviour and classroom management

- Differentiated and adaptive teaching

- SEND and inclusive practice

- Curriculum delivery

- Assessment for learning

- Working with Teaching Assistants

- Establishing relationships quickly

- Responding to different classroom dynamics

- Supporting pupils with varying levels of attainment

- Communication with different education professionals

- Maintaining consistency in unfamiliar environments

You'll see different approaches in action and develop a clearer understanding of the methods that work best for you.

Choosing your next permanent school is an important career decision.

Supply teaching gives you something that a traditional application process often can't: the opportunity to experience different school environments from inside the classroom.

You'll gain insight into different school cultures, leadership approaches and ways of working.

That experience can be invaluable if you're considering your next permanent role but aren't yet sure what type of environment you want to join.

You may discover that you particularly enjoy a certain year group, a smaller school community, working with pupils with additional needs or a particular approach to teaching and learning.

Each placement adds another layer to your professional experience.

If you've recently qualified, the first stage of your teaching career can feel like a significant decision.

Supply work can provide the opportunity to gain further classroom experience while exploring different schools.

You'll develop confidence in taking responsibility for a class, managing behaviour, delivering lessons and adapting to unfamiliar situations.

You'll also have the chance to observe how different schools organise teaching and learning, giving you useful experience to draw upon as your career progresses.

For experienced teachers, supply work can offer a different way to remain in education.

You may want greater variety after several years in one setting, be considering a move into another area of teaching or simply want more flexibility without leaving the profession.

Your existing classroom experience will be highly valuable to schools requiring reliable teachers who can quickly establish themselves and maintain high expectations.

At the same time, you'll continue to encounter new ideas, environments and approaches that can add to your own professional practice.

Inclusive teaching is part of everyday primary education.

During your assignments, you may work with pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other barriers to learning.

You won't necessarily need to be an SEND specialist, but you should be prepared to adapt your teaching and work closely with Teaching Assistants or other support professionals.

Being able to recognise when a child needs something different - whether that's clearer instructions, additional structure, adapted resources or more time - will be an important part of creating an inclusive classroom.

To be considered for Primary Supply Teacher opportunities in Harrow, you'll need:

- QTS, PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

- Primary teaching experience or relevant teacher training

- A good understanding of the primary curriculum

- Confident classroom and behaviour management skills

- The ability to adapt quickly to unfamiliar classrooms

- A positive and inclusive approach to teaching

- Good communication and interpersonal skills

- The ability to work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and school staff

- A professional and dependable approach

- A genuine commitment to children's learning and wellbeing

Most importantly, you'll need to be the type of teacher who can walk into a new classroom, establish positive expectations and make pupils feel that their learning remains important - even when their usual teacher isn't there.

Flexibility and career development don't have to be opposites.

Supply teaching can give you the space to consider your next move while continuing to teach, develop, learn and add valuable experience to your CV.

You can experience different schools, broaden your knowledge, strengthen your classroom practice and build professional relationships across Harrow.

For some teachers, supply is the flexibility they want long term. For others, it's the bridge to the next stage of their career.

Either way, every classroom gives you another opportunity to develop.

If you're a qualified Primary Teacher looking for a fresh opportunity, we'd like to hear from you.

Pay starts from £160 per day via PAYE, with opportunities in Harrow available for an ASAP start.

Bring your teaching experience, discover new school environments and continue building the career you want.

Apply today with your CV to be considered.
