They're no longer finding their feet in KS1.
They're not yet consumed by SATs and the transition to secondary school.
By Year 4, children are starting to become more independent, their personalities are really emerging and the curriculum gives you plenty to get your teeth into as a teacher.
A primary school in Wythenshawe is looking for a part-time Year 4 Teacher to take responsibility for teaching within its lower KS2 team.
You'll deliver the Year 4 curriculum, building on the foundations pupils developed earlier in primary school and preparing them for the greater independence expected in upper KS2.
That means developing increasingly confident readers and writers, strengthening mathematical fluency and giving pupils opportunities to explore science, humanities and the wider curriculum.
And, of course, there are those multiplication tables to conquer.
You'll be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering Year 4 lessons
- Teaching English and mathematics effectively
- Developing pupils' reading, writing and vocabulary
- Supporting preparation for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
- Teaching engaging lessons across the wider curriculum
- Assessing progress and identifying gaps in learning
- Differentiating for pupils with different starting points
- Supporting pupils with SEND where appropriate
- Establishing positive classroom routines and expectations
- Working collaboratively with other teachers and support staff
- Maintaining appropriate assessment and pupil records
We're looking for someone who knows how to keep eight and nine-year-olds interested without feeling the need to entertain them every minute of the day.
You'll need to explain things clearly, maintain good routines and know when pupils need additional support - and when they're perfectly capable of working something out for themselves.
You'll need:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Primary classroom experience
- Good knowledge of the KS2 curriculum
- Strong classroom management
- Confident assessment and differentiation skills
- Good communication and organisation
- A collaborative approach to working with colleagues
Previous Year 4 or lower KS2 experience would naturally be useful, although strong primary teachers with experience elsewhere across KS2 are also encouraged to apply.
The role is part-time, paying £130-£160 per day depending on experience.
It could suit an experienced teacher who wants to remain in a class-teaching role without working a full week, or someone looking for a part-time position within a supportive primary team.
