Summary

Irrigation Assistant

The Job:

An established and innovative soft fruit growing business in Hampshire is looking for an experienced Irrigation Assistant to join its growing team. This is an important role within the production operation, responsible for helping to ensure crops receive the correct levels of water and nutrients throughout the growing season.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working with commercial soft fruit and a good understanding of the different irrigation systems used in fruit production.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage and monitor irrigation systems across soft fruit production areas

- Ensure crops receive appropriate irrigation throughout different stages of the growing cycle

- Monitor irrigation requirements and respond to changing weather and crop conditions

- Identify and deal with issues or faults within irrigation systems

- Assist with maintaining irrigation equipment, pipework, pumps and associated systems

- Monitor water usage and help ensure irrigation is carried out efficiently

- Work closely with the growing team to understand crop requirements

- Carry out regular checks of crops and irrigation systems

- Maintain accurate irrigation records

- Support the wider growing operation when required

The Candidate:

- Previous commercial experience working with soft fruit is essential

- Good understanding of irrigation systems used within soft fruit production

- Knowledge of different irrigation methods and their application to fruit crops

- Understanding of crop water requirements throughout the growing cycle

- Practical and mechanically minded

- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills

- Able to work independently and as part of a wider team

- PA1 and PA6 qualifications would be highly desirable

The Package:

- Salary £30,000–£40,000 depending on experience

- Permanent position within an established soft fruit growing business

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
