Summary

Senior Agricultural Operator

The Job:

An established, privately owned agricultural and horticultural business is looking for an experienced Senior Agricultural Operator to join its small, experienced team.

This is a highly practical, hands on role combining machinery operation and outdoor agricultural work. You will work from management plans and scheduled tasks, taking responsibility for ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supervising day to day agricultural and horticultural activities

- Supporting and coordinating a small team

- Working from management plans and worksheets to deliver tasks independently

- Operating a range of agricultural and site machinery

- Ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard

- Supporting seasonal outdoor operations as required

- Maintaining good organisation and productivity across the site

- Carrying out daily machinery checks and basic maintenance

- Taking responsibility for completing allocated work with minimal supervision

- Supporting general site operations and practical agricultural activities

The Candidate:

- Strong tractor driving experience

- Experience operating telehandlers and/or forklifts

- Experience operating MEWPs

- Tree lifter experience would be advantageous

- Previous experience supervising a small team, or the confidence and ability to step into a senior/leadership position

- A good understanding of health and safety

- Experience working independently and managing your own workload

- A reliable, hands-on approach and strong work ethic

- Good organisational and time-management skills

- Experience of nursery/tree work and pruning would be advantageous

- PA1, PA2, PA3 and/or PA6 spraying certificates would be advantageous

- A willingness to get involved across a varied range of practical operations

Most importantly, you will be someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating machinery and getting stuck into the job, while also being capable of taking responsibility and supporting others within a small team.

The Package:

- Up to £40,000 basic salary based on a 40-hour working week

- Overtime paid at time and a half

- Discretionary bonus

- 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays

- Two week Christmas shutdown

- Training and development opportunities, including the opportunity to gain additional spraying certificates

- A varied, hands-on role within an established and experienced team

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
