Summary

Assistant Grower

The Job:

A successful and innovative soft fruit growing business in Hampshire is looking for an Assistant Grower to join its production team. Working alongside the growing team, you will support the day to day management of commercial soft fruit crops, helping to ensure they are grown to the highest possible standards.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working with soft fruit and a good understanding of the growing cycles and requirements of different fruit crops.

Key Responsibilities:

- Monitor crops throughout their growing cycles and identify any issues

- Support crop walks and regular crop assessments

- Assist with crop husbandry and general growing activities

- Monitor plant development, fruit quality and crop performance

- Work with the growing team to ensure crops receive the appropriate care at each stage of production

- Assist with irrigation, crop protection and other aspects of crop management

- Maintain accurate crop and growing records

- Identify potential crop issues and raise them with the relevant member of the growing team

- Support planning and preparation across the growing operation

- Assist with general farm and growing duties when required

The Candidate:

- Previous commercial experience working with soft fruit is essential

- good understanding of soft fruit growing cycles and crop development

- Practical knowledge of commercial fruit production

- Understanding of crop husbandry and general growing practices

- Good observation and attention to detail

- Able to recognise changes in crop condition and understand when action may be required

- Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider growing team

- Good organisational and communication skills

- PA1 and PA6 qualifications would be highly desirable

- A genuine interest in growing and a hardworking, practical approach are essential

The Package:

- Salary £30,000–£40,000 depending on experience

- Permanent position within an established soft fruit growing business

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
