Summary

This new post is to join our team of 5 subspecialty gastrointestinal radiologists who provide an extensive radiological service to the Solent Centre for Digestive Diseases. Solent Centre for Digestive Diseases is a large multi-disciplinary gastrointestinal specialist centre within the trust that provides surgical, medical and radiological management of gastrointestinal conditions and includes the following sub-specialities: Colorectal Surgery Unit. Current team of 8 colorectal surgeons providing oncological resection and benign surgical intervention for benign conditions including complex inflammatory bowel disease and perianal disease. Recognised centre for Robotic and minimal access surgical resection of pelvic/ rectal malignancy and training centre for complete meso-colic and meso-rectal resection. Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Unit : Oesophago-gastric and Bariatric Surgery Current team of seven upper gastrointestinal surgeons (four upper GI cancer resection surgeons) with recent advertisement for an eighth team member. Tertiary referral centre for minimal access and robotic upper GI cancer surgery, bariatric and complex benign upper GI surgery including biliary surgery, laparoscopic hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery. Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Unit Fifteen consultant gastroenterologists leading a large gastroenterology unit. International recognised endoscopic centre of excellence. Professorial led training centre performing a large volume of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including tertiary referrals for endoscopic mucosal and surgical resections of early tumours and also endoscopic myotomies. Extensive ERCP service enabling comprehensive access to retrograde biliary tract drainage. Consultant led nutritional team with surgical and radiological support providing enteral and parenteral access. Well supported inflammatory bowel disease unit with gastroenterology, surgery , radiology and specialist nurse input . Fortnightly multi-disciplinary team meeting . Recognised bowel ultrasound training centre for inflammatory bowel disease. Regional centre for bowel cancer screening (Solent), with extensive endoscopic and CT colonography experience. Hepatology and Pancreatic Unit 4 hepatology sub-specialist consultants supported by 6 specialist hepatology nurses. PHUNT is a level 2 hepatology centre which provides locoregional treatment for HCC in our own dedicated MDT. Joint hepatology/ transplant service with Royal Free Hospital within Trust management of inpatient and outpatient cases. The gastrointestinal radiology service provides extensive imaging support to the Solent centre for digestive disease with particular areas of expertise in: CT Colonography in the symptomatic and screening population Bowel ultrasound and MR enterography Pancreatic and hepatobiliary MR and ultrasound assessment of benign and malignant conditions Endoscopic ultrasound in cancer staging of upper and lower GI tract malignancy. EUS biopsy and therapeutic procedures to support the upper GI cancer network. Multi-modality radiology support for acute GI conditions including image guided interventions including management of acute sepsis (drainage procedures). Extensive output in Research and Development, the GI radiology department is involved with multiple cross site studies and are regularly invited to talk on sonographic bowel imaging at national and international conferences.
