Summary

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting a full-time SEMH Behaviour Mentor for an exciting temporary-to-permanent opportunity at an excellent secondary school in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

The school provides a supportive and structured environment for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping students overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships and re-engage with education.

This role would suit an experienced Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Pastoral Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or SEMH Support Worker who is passionate about supporting young people and confident managing challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs

- Build strong, positive and trusting relationships with young people

- Support students to manage emotions and develop positive behaviours

- Use calm, consistent and restorative approaches to behaviour management

- Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence

- Encourage positive engagement with learning and school life

- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider support team

- Support students who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education

About You

- Previous experience working with young people in education, youth work, care, support work or a similar setting

- Experience supporting SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs is highly desirable

- Calm, patient and resilient approach

- Confident managing challenging situations and maintaining professional boundaries

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education

- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
