For some young people, getting through the school gates is an achievement.

Staying for the whole day can be another.

Pastoral support can be the difference between a young person gradually disengaging from education and finding a reason to keep going.

Elevate Beyond is recruiting experienced Pastoral Leaders and Learning Mentors to work with young people aged 11-19 across schools, alternative provision and specialist education settings throughout Greater Manchester.

These roles are about more than managing behaviour.

They're about understanding what sits behind it.

You'll support young people who may be experiencing SEMH needs, anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, challenging behaviour or disengagement from education.

Some may need someone to help them manage a difficult morning and return to lessons.

Others may need longer-term mentoring to rebuild confidence, improve attendance or begin thinking positively about their future.

Depending on the setting, you'll:

- Provide one-to-one mentoring and pastoral support.

- Build consistent, trusting relationships with young people.

- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

- Help pupils recognise triggers and develop coping strategies.

- Re-engage young people who are struggling with attendance or learning.

- Support pupils affected by trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences.

- Help young people overcome barriers to education, employment or training.

- Work alongside teaching, safeguarding, SEND and pastoral teams.

- Encourage independence, resilience and positive decision-making.

- Provide a consistent adult presence when a young person needs it most.

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path.

Your experience might come from pastoral support, learning mentoring, youth work, alternative provision, SEMH, residential care, family support, safeguarding, social care or community services.

What matters is that you've worked successfully with young people and understand how to combine empathy with boundaries, patience with consistency and support with appropriate challenge.

You'll need:

- Relevant experience working with young people.

- An Enhanced DBS including the Children's Barred List.

- Registration with the DBS Update Service.

- A Level 2 Safeguarding certificate.

- Two professional references.

- The right to work in the UK.

Not everyone wants the same working pattern.

Opportunities through Elevate Beyond range from single-day cover and part-time assignments through to full-time, long-term placements, giving you the flexibility to choose opportunities that fit around your circumstances and career plans.

Pastoral experience can also open doors into areas including SEMH, safeguarding, behaviour support, youth services, mental health, SEND and social care, making this an opportunity to continue building valuable specialist experience.

You won't always see the impact of a conversation immediately.

Sometimes progress happens gradually - better attendance, fewer incidents, returning to a lesson, asking for help or simply beginning to believe that education might still have something to offer.

If you believe one consistent adult can change the direction of a young person's life, we'd like to hear from you.
