The Role
We are recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a permanent position at an excellent specialist SEN/SEMH school in Wythenshawe, Manchester.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school where staff are valued and there are genuine opportunities for career progression, training and professional development.
The school works with young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional learning needs, providing a structured, nurturing and engaging environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
- Support pupils to access learning and develop confidence and independence
- Build positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities
- Support pupils with their individual learning and development targets
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEN team
- Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
About You
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience within a school, SEN, SEMH, care, youth work or support setting would be advantageous
- Patient, resilient and positive in your approach
- Confident supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour
- Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Relevant TA/SEN qualifications are desirable but not essential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
