Summary

What you'll be doing

As a Painter at the House of Commons, you'll play an important part in maintaining one of the UK's most iconic and historic working estates. Based on the Parliamentary estate in Westminster, you'll work as part of a small team carrying out painting and redecoration across a unique mix of buildings, from the Grade I listed Palace of Westminster and UNESCO World Heritage Site to modern parliamentary buildings. The role offers plenty of variety, from full redecoration and reactive repairs to supporting wider maintenance activities and even taking part in the Parliamentary flag-flying team, helping to keep the estate safe, well maintained and ready for the day-to-day work of Parliament.

What we're looking for

  • You'll have an NVQ, or equivalent qualification, in Painting and Decorating, with experience delivering planned and reactive painting services. You'll be keen to build on your existing skills while working across a unique and complex estate.

  • You'll have a good understanding of painting and maintenance techniques, including how to work safely and effectively within occupied buildings. You'll be comfortable following instructions, drawings and specifications, with opportunities to develop wider multi-skilled maintenance experience.

  • You'll be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues and communicating with a range of people to help resolve issues and deliver a high-quality service. You'll contribute to an inclusive working environment and be willing to learn from others.

  • You'll take pride in providing a responsive and professional service, with the ability to manage and update work tasks using mobile technology and everyday IT systems. You'll be supported to develop your knowledge and confidence as you grow in the role.
