Summary
As Archives Workflow Coordinator, you'll play an important role in supporting the UK's parliamentary democracy. Your work will help Members carry out their responsibilities effectively - contributing to something bigger than any one role.
You'll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions. Together, we make Parliament happen.
You'll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster - a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.
In this role, you'll work closely with a wide range of colleagues across Parliament and The National Archives, including archivists, digital archivists, information managers and records specialists. This provides a unique opportunity to build valuable relationships, develop expertise across multiple disciplines, and contribute to work of lasting national significance.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping how Parliament preserves and manages its information for future generations. Working within a collaborative and supportive environment, you'll help establish and embed the tools, processes and best practices used to transfer records to The National Archives (TNA), as well as manage records that continue to be retained in Parliamentary custody.
Your work will support Parliament in managing information responsibly and effectively, helping to ensure compliance with information legislation while also enabling greater public understanding and engagement with Parliament's work. Through this, you'll make a meaningful contribution to preserving and improving access to Parliament's documentary heritage.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you'll:
- Support colleagues across PKI in shaping and implementing collections management processes for closed records retained by Parliament.
- Work closely with colleagues to develop and document processes that support the future transfer of records to The National Archives (TNA).
- Collaborate with PKI colleagues to explore, design and test systems that enable the ongoing transfer of digital records to The National Archives.
- Contribute to sensitivity review activities and annual record opening work as part of the wider team.
- Partner with Information and Records Management colleagues and fellow Archivists to support the continuous transfer of records and promote consistent approaches across teams, particularly in relation to hybrid collections.
- Assist with the transfer of physical and digital records, undertaking assigned transfer activities to ensure our collections are managed and preserved effectively.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who can bring their skills and experience to make a meaningful contribution here.
You'll have:
- Understanding and experience of archives and/or information management standards and practices.
- Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to explain specialist concepts to a range of audiences.
- The ability to form strong relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- The skill to manage competing requirements and prioritise accordingly.
It would be even better if you have (or are willing to learn):
- Project management: Experience of planning and managing small projects.
- A recognised postgraduate qualification in Archives, Information Management, or a related discipline. We also value equivalent knowledge and expertise gained through practical experience working in the field.
For full details, please see the job description.
What you'll get in return
Working at the House of Lords means joining a community that values your wellbeing, growth and contribution.
You'll benefit from:
- 30 days annual leave (rising to 35 after one year).
- Generous Civil Service pension scheme.
- A comprehensive Parliamentary health and wellbeing programme.
- Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities across diverse professions.
- The chance to witness democracy in action and work in a place of historic national significance.
The work we do is vital to the House of Lords - the second chamber of the UK Parliament. It plays a critical role in making laws, scrutinising government, and providing independent expertise on national issues.
