Summary
Our client, based in York are looking to appoint an experienced Environmental Protection Officer, providing specialist Environmental Health consultative advice on a wide range of planning applications, including major developments and complex proposals.
The role is on a part-time basis, one day a week, possibly longer, for 12 months and the rate of pay will be £36.00 per hour. This is a remote role, you may be required to come to York, on occasion, although this rare.
You will assess environmental impacts associated with proposed developments including:
Air quality
Contaminated land
Construction activities
Noise and vibration
Odour
Extraction and ventilation systems
Plant and mechanical equipment
Lighting and wider residential amenity issues
Review technical submissions including air quality assessments, environmental statements, contaminated land reports, acoustic assessments and supporting environmental documentation.
Prepare evidence-based consultation responses recommending appropriate planning conditions, informatives, further information requirements or refusal grounds.
Work closely with planning officers, developers, applicants and specialist consultants to resolve technical issues and secure suitable mitigation.
In order to be considered you must:
Have minimum of 2 years post qualification experience of Environmental Health Practice, with specific regard to environmental protection, environmental permitting and air quality.
Have strong technical background across air quality, contaminated land, noise, odour, ventilation, extraction, construction impacts and residential amenity, with a proven ability to assess development proposals, negotiate mitigation measures and recommend proportionate planning conditions and informatives.
Be experienced working alongside planning officers, developers, architects, consultants, legal teams, applicants and elected members, providing clear, evidence-based consultation responses that balance environmental protection with sustainable development objectives.
