Are you a passionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist Further Education setting?
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist FE college in Hartlepool, supporting young people with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities. The college provides personalised learning pathways designed to help learners develop their confidence, independence, employability skills and prepare for positive destinations beyond education.
We are looking for enthusiastic, patient and resilient LSAs who are passionate about helping young people reach their potential and develop the skills they need for a meaningful and independent future.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside teaching staff and other professionals to provide personalised support that enables learners to engage with their education and develop greater independence.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to learners with additional needs.
- Supporting learners with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Assisting learners to access their personalised curriculum and learning activities.
- Supporting the development of independence, confidence, resilience and life skills.
- Encouraging learners to develop their communication and social skills.
- Supporting learners within classroom, vocational and real-world learning environments.
- Assisting learners with preparation for employment, further education and adult life.
- Promoting positive behaviour and helping learners manage challenges appropriately.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.
- Working closely with teaching staff, families and other professionals.
- Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every learner feels valued.
About You
The successful candidate will be compassionate, motivated and committed to helping young people achieve their aspirations.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience supporting young people or adults with additional needs.
- Experience within an SEN, SEND, specialist education, FE, care or support setting.
- A patient and person-centred approach.
- The resilience to work confidently with learners who may present with challenging behaviour or complex needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual learner needs.
- A genuine desire to promote independence and help learners achieve their goals.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
- A positive, proactive and flexible attitude.
