About The Big Phone Store

The Big Phone Store is one of the UK's leading refurbished technology retailers and an award-winning employer recognised for customer service, workplace culture, sustainability, growth and innovation.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Technical SEO & AI Search Specialist to take ownership of the technical side of our organic search performance across traditional search engines and AI-powered search.

This is a substantial ecommerce website and this is not an entry-level SEO position. We're looking for someone who has already worked at scale, understands how complex websites behave in search and can demonstrate measurable commercial results.

What success looks like

Your objective is to increase qualified, commercially relevant organic traffic that contributes to enquiries, customers, transactions and revenue. Rankings, impressions and traffic are important indicators, but they are not the end goal.

What you'll be responsible for

• Owning and developing our technical SEO strategy

• Identifying opportunities to increase qualified organic traffic and organic revenue

• Conducting detailed technical SEO audits and prioritising actions

• Monitoring crawling, rendering and indexation

• Managing crawl efficiency

• Reviewing website architecture

• Identifying canonicalisation, duplication and pagination issues

• Reviewing redirects and technical problems

• Monitoring Core Web Vitals and website performance

• Identifying JavaScript SEO issues

• Implementing and improving structured data and schema markup

• Using Google Search Console and other data sources

• Conducting keyword, competitor and search-intent analysis

• Identifying keyword cannibalisation and competing URLs

• Working with developers and content writers

• Monitoring algorithm, search-engine and AI-search developments

• Measuring the commercial impact of SEO changes

Internal linking and website architecture

You'll be expected to understand and improve site hierarchy, internal link structures, contextual linking, anchor-text strategy, category and product relationships, navigation and breadcrumbs, orphaned pages, competing pages and how authority should flow towards strategically important pages.

AI search, GEO and the future of organic discovery

You'll help us understand and improve visibility across Google AI-powered search experiences, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and other emerging search and answer platforms.

Tools and technical ability

You'll be expected to be highly competent with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, SEMrush or equivalent SEO platforms, and website crawling and auditing tools. Knowledge of Python, SQL, APIs, automation or scripting/data-analysis tools is advantageous but not essential.
