Summary

The core component of this post is to provide critical care cover at the QE Critical Care Unit. The Critical Care Unit is divided into 4 areas which, alongside housing general medical patients, specialise as follows: Area A (20 level 3 beds): Liver medicine, Liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgery, upper GI and sarcoma surgery and haematology-oncology Area B (14 Level 3-beds): Burns and Trauma, Maxillo-facial surgery and major plastics. Area C (13 Level 3-beds): Neurosurgery and Neurosciences Area D (20 Level 3 beds): Cardiac surgery, mechanical cardiac support, heart and lung transplantation. A standard full time job plan will contain 10 programmed activities. A programmed activity will normally have a timetable value of 4 hours and a full-time consultant. The ITU DCC component will be 5.3PAs with 2PAs be devoted to supporting professional activities. We are looking for candidates who hold an interest in a partner speciality, we are interested in hearing from candidates who have a particular interest in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine or Anaesthesia. The critical care component may include sessions supporting Critical Care Outreach. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance ((including Departmental audit and quality improvement programmes) as developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The department encourages interest in and support of any ongoing research projects. UHB and the department has academic links with University of Birmingham, University of Warwick and Aston University and has dedicated research facilities - NIHR/Wellcome Clinical Research Facility and Institute of Translational Medicine and a strong clinical trials pharmacy team and research laboratories
