Summary
Impactful and agenda-setting. The Inverness Courier - and wider Highland News & Media titles - has built a reputation in recent times on its hard-hitting political coverage and we don't want this to change as we seek a passionate and driven senior reporter to join our political team
They would join the team in Inverness but cover issues impacting on the city and wider Highlands. While welcome in our newsrooms, once settled there will be flexibility to work from home or community spaces across our patch. They will be expected to establish themselves as a known figure among political leaders locally and nationally, building important contacts to secure potentially award-winning exclusives.
It's crucial to build an understanding of the key issues for the area and have a desire to help make a positive difference for communities across our patch - and may even have a campaigning tilt at times.
As a digital-first operation consistently analysing content performance, we understand the value subscribers place on political content - but it has to be a blend of news, features and analysis that is relatable as human interest articles are a key pillar for our overall content strategy.
In an evolving newsroom, we need someone open-minded to fresh opportunities linked to latest technology - especially with multimedia.
With a 200-year pedigree, and never far from the awards stage, The Inverness Courier is proud to represent its communities with dedication and vigour, similar to sister titles across the Highland News & Media territory.
While not chained to a newsroom desk from 9-5, our politics reporter will not operate alone either - with regular editorial conferences, appraisals, informal meetings, data analysis and audience engagement feedback built into a positive newsroom culture which enjoys celebrating achievements of colleagues. There will also be a close working relationship with the local democracy reporter based in our newsroom.
