Summary

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Bury

Salary: £112.50 per day

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term

We are working with a welcoming and specialist SEN primary school in Bury to recruit a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to work in a nurturing specialist environment supporting children with a range of additional needs. The school places a strong emphasis on developing communication, independence, social skills and confidence alongside academic progress.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide personalised support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual goals.

The Role

- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs.

- Support children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, MLD, SLD and communication needs.

- Assist pupils with accessing lessons and completing learning activities.

- Support communication, social development and emotional regulation.

- Implement strategies outlined within pupils' EHCPs.

- Encourage independence and develop pupils' life skills.

- Support positive behaviour using a calm and consistent approach.

- Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team.

- Participate in sensory, creative, physical and practical activities.

- Create positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

The Ideal Candidate

- Previous experience working with children, particularly within an SEN setting, is desirable.

- Experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, MLD, SLD or complex needs would be advantageous.

- Patient, calm and resilient in your approach.

- Able to build strong relationships with children and understand their individual needs.

- Proactive and confident using your own initiative.

- Passionate about helping children develop and reach their potential.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
