We are working with a specialist secondary SEN school in Bolton to recruit a compassionate, resilient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a specialist environment supporting young people with complex additional needs, including Autism (ASD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

The successful candidate will provide consistent, person-centred support, helping pupils access their education while developing communication, independence, social skills and life skills.

About This Role

You will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide tailored support to pupils with complex needs. The role can involve both classroom-based learning and practical activities, with a strong focus on helping pupils develop their independence and quality of life.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with ASD and PMLD.

- Supporting pupils to access lessons and personalised learning activities.

- Assisting with communication and social development.

- Supporting pupils with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.

- Encouraging independence and developing essential life skills.

- Following individual EHCP targets and personalised support plans.

- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other members of the SEN team.

- Supporting pupils during practical and physical activities.

- Maintaining a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

- Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or PMLD is highly desirable.

- Experience within a specialist SEN, school, care or support environment.

- Patient, calm and resilient when supporting pupils with complex needs.

- Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

- A proactive approach with the ability to use your own initiative.

- Genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.

Essential requirements:

A Child and Adult Enhanced DBS is essential for this position.

Candidates must already hold, or be able to provide, the appropriate Child and Adult Enhanced DBS required for the role.
