The Opportunity:

We are seeking to appoint a tutor with a thorough knowledge and professional experience in a wide range of textile practice and expertise to deliver high quality studio and formal teaching across our undergraduate courses in Performance Costume to fill a tutoring position in semesters 1 & 2 - 2026/2027.

Tutors are sought to prepare and facilitate weekly seminars, tutorials, and textile workshops within the specialism of Performance Costume. You will teach a comprehensive textile curriculum spanning a wide range of textile techniques and methods. Applicants should be familiar with a range of textile techniques including a strong knowledge of fabric properties for print and dyeing, embroidery skills to include stump work and beading, costume break down, preparing digital files for CAD embroidery and sublimation printing, a range of fabric manipulation skills, including smocking and trapunto, leather work and embossing as well as laser cutting and 3D printing. You will also need to be available to work on Monday and Fridays, the timetabled hours of the courses.

There is a guaranteed minimum of 100 hours to be offered in the academic year 2026-2027 with a larger proportion of the hours carried out in the first semester. The hours cover preparation and delivery to students in years 2, 3 & 4, a small number of hours for staff meetings, dealing with student enquiries and CPD hours.

Your skills and attributes for success:

A practising designer/maker with a minimum of 3 years’ experience of textile practice

An extensive, practical knowledge of a wide range of textiles techniques.

Ability to work within a team with a collegial attitude, respect and sensitivity toward students and other staff members.

Ability to apply professional practice experience from real life situations to enhance student understanding.

An enthusiastic, positive and creative approach to teaching.
