Cover People are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils who may be at risk of exclusion, have poor attendance, Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA), SEMH needs or additional SEND requirements. The provision offers a personalised approach to learning, combining academic support, mentoring and wellbeing-focused interventions to help young people re-engage with education and reach their full potential.
The Role:
- Support students with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs in lessons and intervention sessions.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and progress.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs.
- Assist with the delivery of academic, mentoring and life-skills activities.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative approaches.
- Work closely with teachers, learning mentors and external professionals to support student outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Experience within alternative provision is desirable but not essential.
