Are you a resilient and dedicated Teaching Assistant looking to support young people who need an alternative approach to education?
Cover People are recruiting a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary alternative provision in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting Key Stage 4 students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of exclusion. The setting provides a structured, supportive environment focused on helping students re-engage with learning, develop positive behaviours and prepare for life beyond school.
The Role:
- Support students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges both in and out of the classroom.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and progress.
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative approaches.
- Encourage resilience, confidence and independence.
- Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to support individual student needs.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people succeed.
- Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
