At South Hampshire College Group, we are passionate about helping students succeed. We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, and skilled Carpentry Lecturer to join our Construction Team. This is a part-time position based at our Fareham College campus.
As a Carpentry Lecturer, you will play a key role in inspiring and developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople, delivering engaging and practical learning experiences to students across a range of carpentry and joinery programmes.

Duties
- Deliver high-quality practical and theoretical teaching across Carpentry and Joinery programmes.
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans, learning materials, and assessment activities that meet awarding body requirements.
- Assess student work, provide constructive feedback, and monitor learner progress to support achievement and progression.
- Act as a Personal Tutor, providing academic guidance, pastoral support, and encouragement to learners.
- Contribute to the recruitment, induction, retention, and achievement of students.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, progress reviews, assessment outcomes, and learner targets.
- Support students in developing industry-standard skills, safe working practices, and professional behaviours.
- Promote and embed health and safety requirements within workshop and classroom environments.
- Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring programmes remain relevant to industry needs and standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and industry partners to enhance the learner experience and create work placement opportunities where appropriate.
- Participate in quality assurance processes, including standardisation, course review, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure workshop resources, tools, equipment, and learning environments are maintained to a high standard.
- Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain up-to-date industry knowledge and teaching practice.
- Support College open events, employer engagement activities, and other promotional initiatives as required.
Skills/Experience:
We are seeking individuals who:
- Strong vocational knowledge and practical experience within Carpentry and Joinery.
- Good working knowledge of IT systems and digital learning technologies.
- Highly motivated professional with current industry knowledge and a commitment to learner success.
- Previous teaching, training, assessing, coaching, or mentoring experience is desirable.
- Experience delivering apprenticeship training or supporting apprentices in the workplace is desirable.
- Understanding of current developments within the construction industry and vocational education is desirable.
- Ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Level 3 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery or a closely related construction discipline.
- Level 4 qualification in the relevant area of expertise (or willingness to achieve within the required timeframe).
- Teaching qualification at Level 5 (or willingness to achieve within the required timeframe).
- Assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA/A1) is desirable.
- Industry-recognised health and safety qualifications are advantageous.
