Location: Heywood, Greater Manchester

Salary: £165 - £230 per day (dependent on experience)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Contract: Full-time | Long-term | September 2026 Start

SEMH Maths Teacher

We are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in Heywood to recruit an enthusiastic and resilient Maths Teacher for a full-time role starting in September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach Maths in a specialist setting where every lesson has the potential to change a young person's future. The school supports pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom also have additional needs including ADHD, Autism and trauma-related experiences. The school uses a trauma-informed and nurturing approach to help pupils re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.

You'll be joining a supportive and experienced staff team that values strong relationships, consistency and high expectations.

The Role

As the Maths Teacher, you will:

- Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons tailored to individual learning needs.

- Differentiate learning to ensure every pupil can access the curriculum.

- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience and engagement.

- Support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning through a calm and consistent approach.

- Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and the wider leadership team.

- Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies where required.

- Promote positive behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed practices.

- Create a safe, structured and inclusive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

- Experience teaching Maths at secondary level.

- Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND or within alternative provision (desirable).

- Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.

- A patient, resilient and adaptable approach.

- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

Essential Requirements

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised UK teaching qualification.

- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

- Right to work in the UK.

- Two professional references covering the last two years.

- Experience teaching Maths within a UK secondary setting.
