We are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive SEN school to recruit an enthusiastic SEN Sports Coach / SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position starting in September.
This is an exciting hybrid role combining sports coaching with classroom-based SEN support. You will work closely with pupils with a range of additional needs, delivering engaging physical activities while also supporting learning, behaviour and personal development throughout the school day.
This role would suit someone with a background in sports coaching, physical education, youth work or mentoring who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
The role:
As an SEN Sports Coach / SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering fun, engaging and inclusive sports sessions tailored to pupils' individual abilities.
- Supporting pupils throughout the school day within the classroom and during practical activities.
- Working with children and young people with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, MLD and associated learning difficulties.
- Promoting positive behaviour using encouragement, consistency and positive reinforcement.
- Supporting pupils with social interaction, emotional regulation and confidence building.
- Encouraging participation in PE lessons, outdoor learning and enrichment activities.
- Adapting activities to ensure every pupil can access and enjoy physical education.
- Working alongside teachers, therapists and SEN professionals to support individual learning goals.
- Building positive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, supported and motivated.
- Assisting with classroom preparation, intervention sessions and educational activities when not delivering sports sessions.
The successful applicant will:
- Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, coaching or SEN settings.
- Has a passion for sport, physical activity and promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Is confident managing behaviour positively and building strong relationships.
- Has experience supporting children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH or additional learning needs (desirable).
- Can adapt their communication style to meet individual needs.
- Is energetic, patient, resilient and approachable.
- Works well as part of a team but is equally confident using their own initiative.
- Holds a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
- Has the right to work in the UK.
