Summary

Somerset's county town has water on its side. The Bridgwater and Taunton Canal towpath, the River Tone and Longrun Meadow make flat, easy walks, while Vivary Park suits a short midday outing. WoofWalk is a UK app where owners find, book and pay a local walker, and it is looking for three self-employed walkers in Taunton.

Beyond the centre, there are the Quantock Hills and the Blackdown Hills for the long days, and estates at Trull, Staplegrove, Wilton and Norton Fitzwarren for the regular visits. Work out which of them are on your route home.

Honesty about the work: there is no wage, and bookings are not guaranteed. You set the prices, hours and area. Owners book and pay through the app, and your bank receives the money.

For orientation, about 200 WoofWalk listings in October 2026 asked £12 to £28 for an hour's walk with one dog. £18 was the most common figure.

It is free to join, with no commission for the first 14 days. After that WoofWalk keeps 15% of each booking until five of your own clients have signed up, when it falls to 10% for good. Anyone you introduce pays 10% from the first booking.

Income tax and National Insurance are matters between you and HMRC, and an insurance policy is also yours to find. Applicants must be over 18 and meet each owner and dog before the first walk. Walkers already working in Taunton can bring their regulars across.
