This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded sales professional with a proven track record in new business development, account management and consultative selling. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, building strong relationships with key decision-makers and expanding the client base across the commercial fleet, vehicle leasing and contract hire markets.
The role combines office-based responsibilities with regular client visits and field-based business development activity. You will be expected to take ownership of your sales pipeline, proactively generate new leads and convert opportunities into long-term commercial partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & New Sales
• Identify and target new business opportunities across commercial fleet, vehicle leasing, contract hire and related sectors.
• Develop and implement proactive sales strategies, including cold calling, networking and direct prospect engagement.
• Build relationships with key decision-makers and deliver professional sales presentations, both face-to-face and remotely.
• Manage the full sales process, from initial prospecting and proposal development through to negotiation and conversion.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity and potential growth opportunities.
Account Management & Client Relationships
• Manage and develop relationships with existing business clients, acting as a key point of contact.
• Build long-term relationships with senior stakeholders to support client retention and account growth.
• Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell services within the existing client portfolio.
• Develop strategic partnerships that generate sustainable revenue and mutual commercial value.
• Ensure a high standard of client communication and service throughout the customer journey.
Sales Performance & Reporting
• Achieve agreed sales targets relating to revenue, sales volumes and profitability.
• Meet key performance indicators covering prospecting, conversion rates, pipeline development and customer retention.
• Maintain accurate records of sales activity, client interactions and pipeline progress.
• Provide regular performance updates and market insight to senior management.
• Monitor commercial performance and identify opportunities to improve sales effectiveness.
Internal Collaboration
• Work closely with operational teams to ensure effective client onboarding and service delivery.
• Share customer feedback and market intelligence to support business development and service improvements.
• Assist with the preparation of sales proposals, presentations and supporting commercial materials.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Requirements
• Proven experience in B2B business development, sales or account management.
• A strong track record of generating new business through outbound sales activity and cold calling.
• Experience engaging with senior decision-makers and presenting commercial solutions.
• An established network of industry contacts, ideally within fleet management, commercial vehicles, leasing or contract hire.
• Strong commercial awareness, including an understanding of margins, profitability and business costs.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• A proactive, self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and manage a sales pipeline effectively.
• A full, valid UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
• Background in commercial fleet management, vehicle leasing, contract hire or related automotive services.
• Experience working with HGV and LCV fleets.
• Understanding of fleet procurement processes and vehicle management requirements within larger organisations.
What’s on Offer?
• A permanent, full-time opportunity within the commercial vehicle sector.
• Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
• Car allowance.
