Job Opportunity in Public Health - Service Development Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Public Health department at Derbyshire County Council, as part of the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Team.

A substantive full-time post is available.

The right candidate needs to be:

  • passionate about mental health and reducing stigma about suicide, committed to suicide prevention work,
  • insightful about how to reduce inequalities,
  • be able to address topics sensitively,
  • be competent to understand the range of influencing factors to mental health,
  • be experienced in partnership working to achieve shared goals, and
  • demonstrate skills to engage the public and partners as a direct avenue for improving the mental health and wellbeing of the local population.

The Service Development Officer will work closely with the rest of the Public Health Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Team, colleagues within the wider Public Health department and the Council, and important local partners. Work will support an area of focus in the Derbyshire Public Health Strategy and contribute to key priorities in the Derbyshire Suicide Prevention Framework.

We are looking for a colleague who is resilient, resourceful, creative, and optimistic, able to form strong and enduring relationships with a diverse range of people, and able to champion the work we do in a range of settings. If this sounds like you, we look forward to receiving your application.

If you wish to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Gemma Ashby, Advanced Public Health Practitioner, on 01629 532369 or
