Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist SEN school in Barnet, North London. This full-time opportunity involves supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN), helping them engage with learning, develop confidence and make progress within a structured educational environment.

We are looking for candidates with previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting. However, we will also consider strong applicants from care or support backgrounds who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

- Provide individualised 1:1 support to pupils with special educational needs, helping them access learning activities.

- Assist with small-group sessions, encouraging participation, communication and engagement.

- Support teachers with general classroom activities, lesson preparation and the delivery of adapted learning tasks.

- Help pupils develop independence, confidence and positive learning habits.

- Adapt your approach to meet individual learning, communication and emotional needs.

- Encourage positive behaviour through consistent routines, clear expectations and supportive communication.

- Work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.

- Observe pupil engagement and progress, sharing relevant feedback with teaching staff.

- Build positive, professional relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively alongside teachers and support staff.

- Confidence supporting pupils individually, in small groups and within the wider classroom.

- A reliable, professional attitude and willingness to follow school policies and safeguarding procedures.

- Availability to work full-time in a long-term position, with the potential to become permanent.

- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.
