Summary

Medicines Optimisation Dietitian - Join our Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Dietitian to join Sutton Health and Care Adult Dietetic Service as a Medicines Optimisation Dietitian. This specialist role offers the chance to work across primary care, community services and the wider health system to improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of nutritional prescribing for adults.

You will work closely with GP practices, Primary Care Networks, community healthcare professionals and care providers to support evidence-based prescribing of oral nutritional supplements (ONS) and other nutrition-related products. Through clinical review, education and service improvement initiatives, you will help ensure patients receive appropriate nutritional support while contributing to efficient use of NHS resources.

The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced Medicines Optimisation Dietitian who currently undertakes the role on a part-time basis. Together, you will share responsibility for delivering the service across Sutton.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Dietitian with strong clinical skills, an interest in medicines optimisation and a passion for influencing practice across organisational boundaries.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the education and training of dietetic students, including the supervision of student placements.

Main Duties of the Role:

• Lead initiatives to improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of oral nutritional supplement (ONS) and nutrition-related prescribing across Sutton and in line with South West London Integrated Care Board guidelines and priorities.

• Work closely with GP practices, care homes, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to optimise nutritional prescribing and support best practice.

• Review patients prescribed nutritional products and make evidence-based recommendations to ensure appropriate and clinically effective use.

• Deliver training and education to GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, care home staff and other healthcare professionals on malnutrition and nutritional prescribing.

• Act as an expert source of advice on nutrition support, malnutrition management and medicines optimisation for nutritional products.

• Analyse prescribing activity, undertake audits and produce reports demonstrating clinical outcomes and cost savings.

• Develop, review and implement local guidelines, policies, pathways and patient information resources relating to nutritional care.

• Support the wider Dietetic Service through service development activities, student training and supervision, peer support, and participation in team projects, meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.

At gesh we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process.
